where residential projects take shape
Selkirk is planning for the future with a thoughtful approach to growth that balances livability, sustainability, and long-term opportunity. Development-ready land creates opportunities for complete communities with diverse housing and convenient access to amenities. The West End Development is a key part of this vision and will help shape Selkirk’s next chapter.

Selkirk plans for long-term growth in the West End. This area covers about 670 acres, with the City owning approximately half of the land. This allows for a coordinated and intentional approach to development and long-term planning.
Once complete, the West End will support more than 10,000 residents (nearly doubling Selkirk’s existing population), and over 200,000 square feet of commercial space. This growth will create strong opportunities for retail, services, and local businesses.
The West End Concept Plan follows a series of guiding principles aligned with the City’s long-term strategy and Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. The following objectives have been established:
- Promote development that enhances community health and wellbeing, while minimizing environmental impact, energy use and reliance on non-renewables
- Cultivate innovation and stimulate economic development
- Nurture social adhesion and cultural inclusion
- Protect and enhance natural heritage features
One of the most exciting and innovative features of the West End Concept Plan is the Mixed-Use Village. This concept envisions a pedestrian-oriented, transit-supportive urban village and a dynamic gateway into the West End. It would accommodate a range of land uses, including mid-rise residential development types with dwellings varying in size and tenure. Institutional, retail, commercial, and cultural uses could also provide residents convenient access to a variety of amenities.
This positions the West End as a planned growth area with capacity for significant residential and commercial development.
